First of all, I’m privileged to write this my first article for FanFeud and I thank them for the opportunity.
I will be providing three Captain picks each gameweek. In addition to my #CoreCaptain, I will give you my recommendation as the “Safe” choice, as well as the “cheeky” risky pick! In each case I will provide you with valid reasons and stats to support my choices.
ICYMI, the #CoreCaptain pick of Gameweek 4 was Romelu Lukaku (I had him as my own FPL team’s captain) and he scored a hattrick and 17 points in the last gameweek. Sunderland will not want to see him return to the Stadium of Light anytime soon, as he could easily have tacked on another couple of scores in what was a very one-sided fixture on Monday night.

Now coming on to the Gameweek 5 fixtures, there looks to be a lot of very attractive fixtures for those teams from who we typically look to for our FPL captain. thereby giving ample choices for the armband for fantasy football managers.
The Captain Obvious pick’ of the week is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, currently owned by 63.3% managers and the second highest points scorer in FPL till date. It’s clear that he will be the captain for most of his owners. Manchester United play away to Watford this weekend, who have conceded 16.5 shots per game.
But I recommend you only give Zlatan the armband if you are already above 220 points or within 500K overall rank and want to play safe, else you should try captaining a differential.
The #CoreCaptain pick of the week is Alexis Sanchez. Arsenal play an away fixture against Hull City, who have conceded the highest shots per game (23.5) this season. The Chilean is looking extremely fit and in red hot form. He came on as a 62nd minute sub against Southampton and had 2 shots, more than Ozil(1) and Cazorla(1) and also made 2 key passes in just 28 minutes.
Midweek he scored an equaliser goal against PSG in their UCL fixture and also topped the player ratings in that match. He is still owned by just 13.6% and might not be given the armband by many due to his 1 point return last time around, so he can trigger a massive jump in your rank if he has the kind of game of which he is capable.
The final ‘Cheeky-Risky’ pick of the week is none other than Kelechi Iheanacho. Owned by just 4.1% and playing a home game against the weak Bournemouth side, it is very tempting reason to make him your captain for GW5. Bournemouth have conceded 16 shots per game this season and an offensive Man City team under Pep Guardiola will be making most of these chances. It is fair to expect a high scoring match here, despite Aguero’s absence. Man City has won last two fixtures against Bournemouth with scores 5-1 and 4-0 respectively.
That’s it for this week’s captain picks. You can follow me on twitter @FPLantarctican for regular FPL tips & tweaks & casual football banter.
