While FPL managers all over the world are mulling over options to replace Aguero, it’s time to invest that additional money in a premium midfielder. Last season at this moment Mahrez and Payet were ruling FPL and more than 50% of managers owned both of them. Last-season-heroes are soon forgotten however and this year their overall selection percentage of 10.3% & 9.5% sums up the story. Premium midfielders like Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard have dominated so far, while the Liverpool trio of Mane-Coutinho-Firmino have delighted their owners.
However, if there is a team which has the kindest of fixtures from Matchweek until Matchweek 19 then it is Spurs. Tottenham’s midfield is abundant in quality with Dele Alli, Eriksen, Dembele and the forward playing Heung-Min Son (HMS) all quality players capable of attacking returns. Eriksen and HMS had a sensational game against Swansea last week but the one looks like a solid punt in my opinion is last season’s hero Dele Alli.
Alli had a sensational start to his life at White Hart Lane last season where he scored 10 goals and assisted 12 in the Premier League to keep Spur’s title challenge going until the very end. He failed to replicate the same form in the early season games and then injury halted his progress but he has found his touch in the last 2 games and it looks like the old Dele Alli may be back, as the England international has 3 assists in that time.
Right now sitting at 5.0% ownership in FPL he isn’t only a great differential but his price point of £8.1m throws a solid opportunity to catch him early before he sees his price rise. Eriksen is another good option but we have learned in the past that he lacks consistency. HMS on the other hand is prone to rotation risk. Now that Spurs are out of Champions League, Pochettino would like to focus only on giving his side the best chance possible of capturing that Premier League title which they narrowly missed out on last season.
Alli’s next 5 games are against Man Utd (A), Hull (H),Burnley (H), Saints (A) and Watford (A). Last season he had successful games against Man Utd and Saints scoring in both games. Hull, Burnley and Saints defence also will not bother Tottenham too much. So at this moment when the majority are chasing Mane, Gylfi and Eriksen, we feel Dele Alli would be the right man to catch early.
