The shock news Fantasy managers woke up to this morning was that Man City star Sergio Aguero was involved in a car accident last night. Thankfully he will be okay but who should replace the Argentine in your FPL squad? We did speak about the elite forward options on this week’s podcast, so make sure you give that a listen to help form your decision and remember… don’t do any rash transfer until Pep Guardiola’s press conference this afternoon. Until then there is still hope!
Gabriel Jesus – MCI (4 goals in 5 appearances): The Brazilian is the simple choice for managers, and he now has the added bonus of being guaranteed to start most games. The only alternative up front for Pep would be if Raheem Sterling was moved central as has happened in the past. The former Liverpool player has taken 5.1 shots per 90 minutes played which is comparable to Romelu Lukaku’s 4.5 attempts using the same metric, courtesy of Whoscored.com. From inside the box he has 3.3 shots per 90, which is level with Mohamed Salah and only behind Joselu (3.5) and stat-kingpin Harry Kane (3.9). The injury should also see increased playing time for Leroy Sane who has looked exceptional so far, with limited opportunities. If you do go for an alternative to Jesus, then you need to have Man City coverage. For those who don’t already own David Silva, then Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling are great options.
Alvaro Morata – CHE (6 goals, 2 assists in 6 appearances): The Spaniard has been phenomenal to date in his Premier League career, but he was the sacrifice many managers made in order to bring in Aguero a few weeks ago. Managers shouldn’t feel ashamed to go back to the Chelsea man, whose fixtures post Man City look tasty. Crystal Palace, Watford and Bournemouth present real captaincy opportunities for Morata in the coming weeks, but he proved midweek against Atletico Madrid that he is fixture proof even against strong opposition.
Alexandre Lacazette – ARS (4 goals in 6 appearances): The new Gunner made a relatively quiet start to his Premier League career but his double against West Brom on MNF showed everyone what he is capable of. With Arsenal finally looking like they have turned the corner, the Frenchman could benefit from a very attractive run of fixtures in the next four: Brighton, Watford, Everton and Swanea. With Alexis Sanchez back and firing, the entire Arsenal team will benefit and you want to have a fantasy piece of that wave.
Jamie Vardy – LEI (4 goals in 6 appearances): Leicester have had a tough start to the new season, winning only once. Nevertheless, they have been unlucky in a lot of games, and importantly Jamie Vardy has continued to score goals. Bournemouth, West Brom, Swansea, Everton and Stoke in the next 5 fixtures offer real opportunities for Leicester to move up the table and Vardy to score goals. The benefit of downgrading to Vardy or indeed Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is that it adds a lot of money to your budget, and for instance would allow managers to upgrade their midfield drastically. For example, Marouane Fellaini to Leroy Sane or Raheem Sterling would be possible.
Whoever you go for, the very best of luck to you this weekend!
