I hope your team performed well in the past gameweek, but whether it did or not.. you’ll have little time to luxuriate or indeed suffer before we do it all over again in Gameweek 16, which kicks off tomorrow night, and you must have your lineup confirmed by 6.45pm UK time. It is a regular sight after midweek GWs to see tweets from FPL Managers saying that they forgot to change their team as they were not aware or busy working, don’t be that guy/girl! Your mini-leaguemates don’t want to hear it!
Gameweek 15 saw the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Robert Snodgrass, Wilfried Zaha, Fernando Llorente and Jamie Vardy each score 10 points or more, with Vardy bagging a hat-trick against Manchester City and scoring 17 FPL points to put Leicester City back to life. The Christmas period can make or break your season with games coming thick and fast. However, you need to remove the non-performing indulgent expenses and transfer in the ones who are in red hot form and already going into your rival’s team – A case in point would be to sell Roberto Firmino of Liverpool.
The Brazilian midfielder has failed to produce a goal /assists in his last 4 games while his last scoring touch came in GW11 against Watford (H). He has blanked against Bournemouth, Sunderland and WestHam who have more reputation for leaking goals rather than keep clean sheets this season. He is priced at £8.8m & his current form is 2.3 which are less than Mane, Henderson, Milner, Can and Wijnaldum. Liverpool fixture is definitely exciting but we would suggest you to invest in Lallana (7.0) or Mane (9.3), should you wish to retain your stake in the prolific Liverpool midfield. However, if you already own one of those players and you are looking for a cheaper, better performing option you should look no further than Swansea’s Gylfi Siggurdsson.
Why to pick Gylfi, form is something which most of us look at while bringing in a player and Gylfi is in red hot form. 3 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games make him an essential player for your FPL team. Since GW10 he has provided solid returns to his owners and his Form Index of 7.3 is only less than Alexis Sanchez (10.8) & Wilfried Zaha (8.8). If you consider fixtures, then Swansea’s upcoming schedule looks more favourable than that of Crystal Palace, another team mooted as being a team to target.
Coming up for Swansea:
GW 16 West Brom (A)
GW 17 Middlesbrough (A)
GW 18 West Ham (H)
GW 19 Bournemouth (H)
GW 20 Crystal Palace (A)
Apart from that if you ask me why Gylfi looks more appealing than Firmino; it is his dead ball duties. We all know his ice cool head in taking penalties and free kicks. So it’s time to bring him & don’t consider removing him until GW21.
Francesco Guidolin, a manager who has coached the likes of Antonio Di Natale and Alexis Sanchez has a true gem of a No.10 on his hands and the team is being built around him. The more counter-attacking style we have witnessed this season should enable to him to find more space in the key areas where he can make the difference.
