Manchester United misfit Anderson appears to be on his way back to Portugal.

The 26 year old made just 8 appearances for the club last season and is not part of Louis Van Gaal’s plan for the coming season.

While most reports are in agreement that he will end up in Portugal the final destination appears to be the subject of debate.

The Daily Mail are reporting that the players former club Porto are keen to bring Anderson “home” while their rival, the Express are reporting that it is in fact Sporting Lisbon who have won the race for the Brazilian international.

Lisbon have already snapped up United winger Nani on a season long loan deal but they are ready to part with £5.5 million to sign Anderson. The club reportedly have the money to spend especially as a number of outlets are covering the fact that Manchester United will pay 100% of Nani’s £4.8 million salary while he is in Portugal.

Anderson has spent seven years at Manchester United but has never lived up to the potential that saw him secure the move to the Premier League with injuries hampering his progress. The player failed to impress during a loan spell with Serie A side Fiorentina last season and he will hope to get his career back on track in familiar surroundings.

Anderson featured 104 times, starting 70 games, for the Manchester United side registering just 5 goals, with two his best return in a season. A startling statistic from his time at United is that Anderson has only completed a full 90 minutes on 19 occasions and has been substituted 51 times.

A move away from the club appears logical especially with first team football not on the table, the player is one of a number of stars likely to leave Old Trafford in the final days of the transfer window.
