So far this season, successful teams have built from the top, with 3 premium forwards from the quartet of Kane, Lukaku, Aguero/Jesus and Morata. However, investing money in the right players in midfield is still vital to achieving regular green arrows. Experienced FPL managers know that midfielders are equally capable of getting big points hauls. They get more points for goals scored than strikers and they can also get 1 point for a clean sheet… it all adds up. Just look at some of the points hauls earned by A.Sanchez, E.Hazard and De Bruyne last season. I think there is an argument for improving the quality of your midfield especially if you are on your wildcard or looking to do so imminently. Looking ahead at the next four gameweeks, which players should you build your midfield around?

The first thing a manager should do is look ahead at the upcoming fixtures and highlighting those premium teams who I think have decent fixtures on a weekly basis. Looking at that shortlist can provide you with a valuable “tiebreaker” when deciding between two players of a similar quality, from different teams.

Game week 7 (30.9.2017) – Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal
International break
Game week 8 (14.10.2017) – Man City, Spurs, Chelsea.
Game week 9 (20.10.2017) – Chelsea, Man City, Spurs and Liverpool (joint)
Games week 10 (28.10.2017) – Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea

Based on the above list, I would prioritise owning midfielders from Chelsea & Liverpool (3 premium fixtures), then Man City & Spurs (2 excellent fixtures) and lastly Manchester United & Arsenal.

Liverpool: Philippe Coutinho

This is a side that excites me the most as I think they are great going forward like the sides I have mentioned but they might be under a bit of pressure now so rotation might be less likely. Like Man City, I would happily double up in midfield with Liverpool players. Coutinho looks well and truly back to form so he would be my essential pick. Closely followed by Salah and then Mane. Any 2 of those 3 would be a great shout so it’s just down to personal preference as they all have the potential to be explosive.

Chelsea Pick: Eden Hazard

Now onto Chelsea and the return of Hazard will cause a headache to many #FPL managers. Hazard started the Champtions League game and he provided a delightful cross to set up Morata’s goal vs Atletico Madrid. Again, keep an eye on Conte’s press conference but if Hazard is deemed a starter at the weekend I would definitely be looking at him for my team. He might still be on penalties so he offers a great alternative to Morata. Pedro is the only other one I would consider but he can be streaky at times and just not as explosive as Hazard.

Manchester City: David Silva

Another side in great form is Man City and whilst they have a tough fixture in game week 7 away at Stamford Bridge vs Chelsea, they could still perform well. The same applies to Chelsea midfielders but more on that later. For me D.Silva, Sane, Sterling are the standout choices as they seem to be getting in great attacking positions. The only thing that is a concern is potential rotation but like the Man Utd midfielders, I feel they could still produce points returns even if they make cameo sub appearances. David Silva would be my essential pick in my view. He is playing like the way we wanted De Bruyne to play when we all bought him in our game week 1 sides!! For those managers on a wildcard, I would even consider doubling up on Silva with Sane or Sterling.

Tottenham Hotspur pick: Dele Alli

Next is Spurs and I think Alli is the only option at the moment given his Champions league suspension which means he is more likely to start in the next couple of Premier League games. Eriksen is another one to consider but he might be an injury/illness doubt so keep an eye for news.

Manchester United: Anthony Martial

I don’t think Man Utd have great #FPL fixtures after game week 7 until game week 12, but I would recommend keeping or buying their midfielders for the Crystal Palace game at Old Trafford. Especially, if you don’t own Lukaku and have no intention of buying him. I’m not suggesting that curse word of “coverage” but I just think any of their midfielders could have a field day against a woeful Palace side that conceded 5 goals to Man City last week. Make sure you read the report from the press conferences on Friday before making your final decision on players like Mkhitaryan, Mata and Martial. If Mourinho hints that Martial could start he would be my number 1 choice as a short term punt.

Arsenal pick: Aaron Ramsey

Arsenal seem to have turned the corner now after that Liverpool result and are looking more settled but I would only consider Ramsey from midfield. Sanchez hasn’t hit great form yet so I still consider him too expensive. Ozil could be an interesting one as he could potentially link up well with Lacazette but Ozil is returning from injury so it’s still too soon for him. Xhaka is on set pieces like corners so could always come up with an assist but that seems a bit too risky for my liking.

Thanks again for reading and I hope this helped.
